dc.description.abstractÖZET: Tez çalışmasında, tekinsizliğin mekânla ilişkisini kavramaya çalışırken, tekinsizlik ve beraberinde getirdiği korku durumunun kentteki yansımaları tezin omurgasını oluşturmuş ve Tarlabaşı bölgesinin geçirdiği yıkımların bu bağlamda anlaşılması hedeflenmiştir. Bölgenin korku mekânına dönüşmesini, dahası geleneksel mahalle kavramından korkunun getirdiği "güvenlik" söylemleriyle kentin fiziksel ve sosyal parçalanmasına imkân veren yenileme projesine dair eleştirel bir yaklaşım sunmaktadır. Çalışmada kullanılan metodoloji farklı yaklaşımlardan farklı kanallar aracılığıyla Tarlabaşı bölgesine bakmayı hedefler. Medyanın ve aktörlerin yansıttığı "öteki" Tarlabaşı dışarıdan bakmayı, kentsel bir eşik olan Tarlabaşı Bulvarı boyunca eşikte kalmak ve tekinsizlik ilişkisi ile kenardan bakmayı ve son olarak Tarlabaşı'nda yaşayan kişilerle yapılan görüşmelerde anonim ifadelerle birlikte literatürde geçen anketlerden de yola çıkarak "içerden" bakmayı hedefler. Bu üç kent yüzünün bize sunduğu çerçeve içinde bir yandan Tarlabaşı bölgesinin nasıl "korku" ürettiğine, tarihsel süreç içerisinde anlamaya çalışırken diğer yandan da bu "güvenlik" etrafında yoğunlaşan söylemlerle yıkımların meşrulaştırıcı rolüne değinmeyi amaçlar.en_US
dc.description.abstractABSTRACT: While revealing the relationship between uncanny and urban areas, uncanniness and its concomitant which is reflections of fear on the region comprised the framework of the thesis. In this regard, it was worked on developing an understanding of the "demolitions" of Tarlabasi, a neighborhood in the Beyoglu district in Istanbul, chosen as a study area for the thesis study. The study also suggests a critical approach regarding the transformation of Tarlabasi into a fearful neighborhood, and the gentrification project that allow urban segregation and social marginalization because of discourses of the "safety". The methodology adopted for this study is to analyze Tarlabasi through three various perspectives by being an outsider participant, a participant who stands on the edge of Tarlabasi, and an insider participant. While the outsider perspective was obtained by the way that media industry and its actors point out the "other" Tarlabasi, the second perspective mentioned above was gained related uncanny with threshold study made around Tarlabasi Boulevard which is an urban threshold intended to provide preliminary information. Lastly, the study highlights the "insider" perspective through a literature review that includes surveys and face-to-face meetings with Tarlabasi residents were conducted and continuing disputes, interpretations, and narratives depending on those meetings were presented. As a result, the objective of this study is to demonstrate how the neighborhood of Tarlabasi causes fear throughout the historical process through understanding these three dimensions and to emphasize the role of demolitions that have been legitimated to assert the "safety".en_US
