This study, planned as a single-blind intervention study to determine the effects of beetroot juice on anaerobic swimming performance, blood lactate level and fatigue in adolescent male swimmers, consists of 14 licensed adolescent male swimmers working in sports clubs in Bursa province. In the first interview where the sociodemographic information and nutritional habits of the swimmers were evaluated, 24-hour food consumption records were questioned and anthropometric measurements were recorded. The swimmers underwent a maximum effort swimming performance of 8x100 meters without consuming any beverages in the first week of the study. In the second week of the study, they consumed a placebo beverage containing 0.6 mmol/250 mL NO3- 2.5 hours before each training (2 x250 mL for 3 days and 1 x250 mL for 3 days). In the last week of the study, similar to the previous week, but this time containing 8 mmol/250 mL NO3-, beetroot juice was consumed. After each performance test in the study, blood lactate measurements and perceived fatigue levels were recorded. When the effect of acutely taken beetroot juice before exercise on performance times in swimming was examined, it was observed that although the times in the last week were faster than the first two weeks in the general degrees of 8x100 meter performance, there was no statistically significant difference, but a statistically significant decrease was observed in the third 100 meter performance times between the first and third weeks (p<0.05). In our study, after the performance test before the intervention, the mean blood lactate was 15.09±3.30 mmol/l, 16.23±4.30 mmol/l after placebo drink and 15.21±4.01 mmol/l after beetroot juice intake (p<0.05). It was determined that perceived fatigue decreased in swimmers after placebo drink and beetroot juice consumption before the intervention (p:0.019; p<0.05). It was observed that beetroot juice intake for six days in adolescent male swimmers did not cause a significant improvement in performance times and blood lactate levels, but it caused a decrease in the perceived fatigue level.
