Öğe Consumption with Durability(2003) Seçkin, AylinDinamik programlama tekniği kullanarak gelir belirsizliği ve dayanıklılık varsayımı altında zamanlar arası tasarruf-tüketim modelinin kapalı çözümü bulunmuştur. Diğer bir deyişle, dayanıklılık arttıkça gelir belirsizliğine karşı ihtiyati tasarruflar daha da artmaktadır.Öğe Dynamic price dependence of Canadian and international art markets: an empirical analysis(Physica-Verlag Gmbh & Co, 2012-10) Seçkin, Aylin; Hodgson, Douglas J.Although the market for Canadian paintings is now of substantial magnitude, with several works having recently been sold for well over a million dollars, it remains true that with very few exceptions, the works of Canadian painters are bought and sold only in Canada and seem to be held only by Canadian collectors. This market can thus be viewed as largely local, and it is therefore not clear whether there should be any linkage between price movements for Canadian art and those for the mainstream international market in old master, impressionist, and modern art. This article investigates the presence and nature of such time series dependence econometrically, both in terms of long-term trends as reflected in the co-integrating relationship between Canadian and the international market, and in terms of short-run co-movements as represented in correlations. The possibility that the local market "follows" the international one is also considered through an analysis of Granger causality. For Canadian art prices, we use a new hedonic index that has been computed using an updated version of the dataset of Hodgson and Vorkink (Can J Econ 37:629-655, 2004), while for the international prices, we use an index provided by Mei and Moses (Am Econ Rev 92:1656-1668, 2002).Öğe Home advantage in turkish professional soccer(2008-08) Seçkin, AylinHome advantage is known to play an important role in the outcome of professional soccer games and to vary considerably worldwide. In the Turkish Super League over the last 12 years, 61.5% of the total points gained have been won by the home team, a figure similar to the worldwide average and to the Premier League in England. It is lower (57.7%) for games played between teams from Istanbul and especially high for games involving teams from cities in the more remote and ethnically distinct parts of Turkey (Van and Diyarbakir). Match performance data show that although home teams in Turkey take 26% more shots at goal than away teams, the success rates for shots do not differ. For fouls and disciplinary cards, home and away teams do not differ significantly in Turkey, a finding that differs from games in England, perhaps due to less referee bias. © Perceptual and Motor Skills 2008.Öğe Is low fertility really a problem? Population aging, dependency, and consumption(American Association for the Advancement of Science, 2014-10-10) Seçkin, AylinLonger lives and fertility far below the replacement level of 2.1 births per woman are leading to rapid population aging in many countries. Many observers are concerned that aging will adversely affect public finances and standards of living. Analysis of newly available National Transfer Accounts data for 40 countries shows that fertility well above replacement would typically be most beneficial for government budgets. However, fertility near replacement would be most beneficial for standards of living when the analysis includes the effects of age structure on families as well as governments. And fertility below replacement would maximize per capita consumption when the cost of providing capital for a growing labor force is taken into account. Although low fertility will indeed challenge government programs and very low fertility undermines living standards, we find that moderately low fertility and population decline favor the broader material standard of living. It uses data on personal (composer-to-composer) musical infuences to generate and analyze network graphs. Data on style infuences and composers ‘ecological’ data are then combined to composer-to-composer musical infuences to build a similarity/distance matrix, and a multidimensional scaling analysis is used to locate the relative position of composers on a map while preserving the pairwise distances. Finally, a support-vector machines algorithm is used to generate classifcation maps. This article falls into the realm of an experiment in music education, not musicology. The ultimate objective is to explore parts of the classical music heritage and stimulate interest in discovering composers. In an age ofering either inculcation through lists of prescribed composers and compositions to explore, or music recommendation algorithms that automatically propose works to listen to next, the analysis illustrates an alternative path that might promote the active rather than passive discovery of composers and their music in a less restrictive way than inculcation through prescription
