Öğe ANKOS Publisher Application System and Its Impact on the E-Resource Evaluation Process (vol 39, pg 29, 2013)(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2013) Bulut, Burcu; Ugur, Handan; Gurdal, Gultekin; Holt, Ilkay; Cuhadar, Sami; Akbayrak, Emre H.; Celebi, Mustafa K.[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Cost-sharing models: experience of the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium(Elsevier Science Inc, 2019) Cuhadar, Sami; Cimen, ErtugrulPurpose: This study examines the cost-sharing models used by the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS) to determine the amounts that university libraries pay for each consortial subscription. A survey was conducted among library directors and managers of ANKOS member universities to evaluate cost-sharing models in order to create improved models. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed in SPSS, the first time that these cost-sharing models have been assessed on the national level. The results of the study are presented for the benefit of other consortia and scientists/researchers and library professionals working in the field. Design/methodology/approach: This article takes a historical and descriptive approach and uses statistical methods to analyze the results of the survey. It also focuses on obtaining objective results from the Consortium members' feedback. Findings: As with other library consortia all over the world, many different cost-sharing models have been used by ANKOS. As a result of this study, the most suitable models have been determined for different scales of academic libraries. In negotiations with publishers and vendors, priority will be given to price models preferred by member institutions. Practical implications: The material presented should be useful for all academic librarians concerned with consortium systems, cost-sharing, and e-resource management, especially in the developing world. This paper also provides some key points for academic librarians in the process of establishing a consortium. Originality/value: This paper is an example of successful academic library consortium activities in a developing country and examines, in detail, the developments, opportunities, and challenges experienced since the establishment of the consortium.Öğe Information Literacy in Legal Education: The Case of Istanbul Bilgi University(Springer-Verlag Berlin, 2012) Cuhadar, Sami; Kahvecioglu, KeremThe main purpose of the law is to seek justice by solving both individual and social conflicts in society and thereby achieve peace, equality and freedom. In order to achieve this goal, the rules of law should be understood in order to be implemented and interpreted correctly. Due to the rapid changes and increase in technology and information, the concept of information literacy is becoming more crucial in every field including legal education. The aim of this paper is to examine briefly the legal information skills and legal information literacy implementations worldwide and in Turkey, and to give information about the appropriate information literacy standards for undergraduate legal education. Information literacy practices at Istanbul Bilgi University Law Faculty are specifically mentioned.Öğe New Electronic Resources Management System for the ANKOS Consortium(Elsevier Science Inc, 2013) Cuhadar, Sami; Tuglu, Ayhan; Gurdal, GultekinThe Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS), which was originally established to coordinate university libraries' electronic serials purchases, today plays an active role in selecting, providing access to, managing and evaluating electronic information resources in Turkey. A substantial volume of subscriptions and purchases of e-journal, e-book and e-reference resources is conducted through ANKOS. In order to measure the usage rate of these resources, to conduct cost analyses and to use the findings in strategic planning cycles of both the institutions and the consortium, a New Electronic Resources Management System (ERM) has been developed by ANKOS. In this study, the authors explain how the new system was developed, its technical features, data entry and collection, the system's contribution to the collection of institution and usage statistics, and its impact on strategic planning. Available statistical facts are also provided to illustrate the development and the impact of the new ERM system. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. Outcome-based assessment is a useful way to measure and prove the value of library services and operations to students, teaching staff, university administrations, and accreditation bodies. Recent studies have focused on the methodologies and tools for and the impacts of outcome-based assessment in academic libraries. This paper contributes by reporting a real case study on the impacts of a newly implemented outcome-based assessment process in an academic library. Its findings offer useful tips and takeaways for library assessment processes, and should guide other libraries on how to approach assessment consistently with their aims and to resolve related problems.
