Özet

This article focuses on the potential of the lumbung practice presented at documenta 15, serving as a crucial catalyst for reassessing the structures of art institutions and their relationship with society. The article explores how lumbung offers a unique perspective on challenging existing power dynamics within art institutions and how this practice can foster alternative models. Lumbung served as a framework pointing towards future collective practices grounded in principles of sustainability, equitability and community-oriented approaches to resource allocation, production and distribution. The article emphasizes the urgent need for Istanbul’s art scene to draw inspiration from collective sharing practices like lumbung. While highlighting both the opportunities and challenges of implementing alternative models, it highlights the need to initiate discussions that question established power dynamics and promote more equitable and democratic models within these institutions. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Meike Lettau and Özlem Canyürek individual chapters, the contributors.
