The moderator role of future time perspective in the relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment in Turkish white-collar employees

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Türk beyaz yakalı çalışanlarda Algılanan Örgütsel Destek ile Örgütsel Bağlılık arasındaki ilişkide Gelecek Zaman Perspektifinin moderatör (düzenleyici) rolü incelenmiştir. Literatürde Algılanan Örgütsel Destek ile Örgütsel Bağlılık arasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyen farklı araştırmalar bulunmaktadır. Ancak bu araştırma makalesi, önceki çalışmaları genişletmeyi ve bu ilişki arasındaki Gelecek Zaman Perspektifinin moderatör rolüne daha fazla odaklanmayı amaçlamıştır. Örneklem, Türkiye'de farklı sektör, şirket ve pozisyonlarda tam zamanlı çalışan 159 beyaz yakalı çalışandan oluşmaktadır. Katılımcılardan ihtiyaç duyulan verilerin elde edilmesinde Algılanan Örgütsel Destek Ölçeği (Eisenberger et al., 1986), Örgütsel Bağlılık Ölçeği (Meyer et al., 1993), Zimbardo Zaman Perspektifi Envanteri (Zimbardo & Boyd, 1999), Demografik Değişkenler Formu ve Bilgilendirilmiş ve Gönüllü Onam Formu kullanılmıştır. Daha sonra tüm veriler SPSS programında analiz edilmiş ve varsayılan ilişkileri test etmek için betimsel, korelasyon, regresyon ve hiyerarşik regresyon analizleri yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar, Gelecek Zaman Perspektifinin, Algılanan Örgütsel Destek ile Örgütsel Bağlılık toplamı ve onun alt boyutları olan Duygusal ve Normatif Bağlılık arasındaki ilişkiyi önemli ölçüde düzenlediğini ancak yönün negatif olduğunu göstermiştir. Öte yandan, verilerde Devam Bağlılığı için bu ilişkiyi destekleyecek yeterli kanıt bulunmamıştır. Sonuç olarak, Algılanan Örgütsel Destek ile genel Örgütsel Bağlılık arasındaki ilişki, Gelecek Zaman Perspektifi düşük olan çalışanlar için, yüksek olanlara göre daha güçlüydü. Bulgular, çalışanlarını destekleyerek ve diğer zaman perspektiflerini teşvik ederek bağlılıklarını artırmak isteyen kuruluşlar için önemli çıkarımlara sahiptir.The moderator role of Future Time Perspective in the relationship between Perceived Organizational Support and Organizational Commitment in Turkish white-collar employees is examined in this study. Different studies in the literature that investigated the relationship between Perceived Organizational Support and Organizational Commitment but this research paper aimed to expand those previous studies by focusing more on the moderator role of the Future Time Perspective in the relationship. The sample consisted of 159 white-collar employees who are working full-time positions in different sectors and companies in Turkey. Perceived Organizational Support Scale (Eisenberger et al., 1986), Organizational Commitment Scale (Meyer et al., 1993), Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (Zimbardo & Boyd, 1999), as well as Demographic Variables Form and Informed Consent Form, were used to obtain the data needed from the participants. Afterward, all the data was analyzed on the SPSS program, and descriptive, correlation, regression, and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to test the hypothesized relationships. Results indicated that Future Time Perspective significantly moderated the relationship between Perceived Organizational Support and overall Organizational Commitment and its sub-dimensions of Affective and Normative Commitment but the direction was negative. In contrast, there was no sufficient evidence in the data to support a significant relationship with Continuance Commitment. In conclusion, the relationship between Perceived Organizational Support and overall Organizational Commitment was stronger for employees with lower Future Time Perspective than for those with higher ones. Findings have important implications for organizations looking to increase employees' commitment by supporting them and encouraging other time perspectives.
