İstanbul’da Bir Üçüncü Mekân Okuması: ‘Pozitif’ Titreşimler Ve Babylon

Abstract

Bu makale, küreselleşme dinamikleri içerisinde müzik endüstrisinin mekânsal pratikleri üzerine yoğunlaşmaktadır. Bu açıdan, yazı, İstanbul’un müzik endüstrisinin en önemli kuruluşlarından biri sayılan Pozitif şirketinin Asmalımescit semtinde yaratmış olduğu Babylon ismindeki müzik mekânı üzerine odaklanmıştır. Bir yandan Babylon –ve içinde bulunduğu mahalle- Lefevre’in ‘temsili mekânlar’ ve Soja’nın ‘Üçüncü Mekân’ kuramları çerçevesinde analiz edilse de, seçilen çalışma alanı aynı zamanda küresel sermaye akışlarının politik ekonomisi doğrultusunda kritik edilmektedir. Ayrıca, ritim kavramı hem gündelik hayat tartışmaları kapsamında, hem de mekân ve ses ilişkileri bağlamında ele alınmıştır.  This paper aims to elaborate on the spatial practices of the music industry within the dynamics of globalization. Accordingly, the writing focuses on one of the main interlocutors of Istanbul’s music corporation, Pozitif, and the musical space it has created called Babylon at the Asmalımescit neighborhood. Thus, on the one hand, Babylon –as well as the neighborhood where it is situated- is analyzed in terms of Lefebvre’s ‘representational spaces’ and Soja’s ‘Third Space’; whereas on the other hand, the chosen case study is problematized in line with the political economy of the global capital flows. Furthermore, the aspect of rhythm is also examined under the discussions of everyday life, as well as within the reconsideration of the relationship between space and sound.
