Öğe Development of 100% Recycled Thermoplastic Composites for Sound Insulated Acoustic Panels(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2022) Kucukali-Ozturk, M.; Yalcin-Enis, I.; Sezgin, H.Today, environmental problems are increasing rapidly and the focus is shifting to seeking long-term and sustainable solutions. At this point, the economical use of raw material resources is important and this makes recycling a necessity, not a diversity. In this context, environmentally friendly acoustic panels are designed with composites produced by recycling 100% textile and packaging wastes for the noise problem in buildings. Denim fabrics from textile wastes and low-density polyethylene bottle caps from packaging wastes are used. Denim fabrics that are shredded into cotton fibers are blended with ground waste polyethylene granules and porous structures are obtained with the hot press technique. The panels, whose physical and acoustic properties have been tested, are aimed to create an environmentally friendly alternative to existing products. © 2022 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.Öğe Development of Acoustic and Thermal Insulation Materials from Pantyhose Waste(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2023) Kucukali-Ozturk, M.; Sezgin, H.; Yalcin-Enis, I.; Dolu, C.Population growth, urbanization, industrialization, developing technology, increasing welfare level and changing consumption habits cause solid wastes to increase day by day. There are also sub-waste groups that have not yet been fully recognized among the solid waste groups in which textile wastes have a large share. One of them is pantyhose, which has been indispensable for modern life since the day it was presented to the consumer. These socks, which are made of polyamide and elastane fibers that are easily punctured, run and become unusable when worn once or several times, are generally thrown away after use. These pantyhose wastes, which are not biodegradable due to their raw materials, also pose an environmental risk. Within the scope of the study, thermal and sound insulation properties of carded and needle-punched pantyhose wastes are investigated. The results show that the thermal and acoustic properties of the developed material are at a sufficient level, and it has ensured that polyamide wastes, which have superior properties among thermoplastic polymers and have high economic value, are brought back into the economy. © 2023 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.Öğe EXPERIENCES FROM IYS 2020, PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND AWARENESS ACTIVITIES IN TURKEY(European Acoustics Association, EAA, 2023) Şaher, K.; Sezgin, H.; Dümen, A.Ş.; Nas, S.; Kulak, S.; Özçetin, Z.The year 2020, which has been designated as the International Year of Sound with the intention of celebrating and promoting the importance of sound for science and society was ironically started as a silent and isolated year with the global COVID-19 pandemic. However, these unprecedented times and activities around the world, which explored the interaction between sound, technology and the society, presented sound experiences for humanity and the ecosystem that they have never had the opportunity to experience before. This study reports on the activities of Turkish Acoustical Society during these times and aims to draw attention to the benefits, challenges, and opportunities of the instruments for widening participation and spreading knowledge relating to sound. The main activities were public opinion survey on noise annoyance in dwellings before and during the pandemic, Turkish Glossary of Acoustic Terms, IYS Drawing and Composition Competition in Turkish schools and various seminars, interviews, podcast on social media channels. Our experience and findings suggest that designing and implementing activities that actively includes researchers, teachers, students and ordinary people may help increase public engagement behaviorally, emotionally, and cognitively, there by positively affecting awareness in sound related subjects. © 2023 First author et al. The polyethylene, which is the main waste of the packaging sector, and the cotton fibers, which are among the leading wastes of the textile industry, are increasing day by day and the recycling these wastes by using them as reinforcement materials in composites emerges as a sustainable solution. The main purpose of this study is to develop a thermal insulation panel by combining the wastes from two different sectors. Therefore, 100% recycled composite materials are designed according to the different numbers and sequences of recycled cotton fiber layers and recycled polyethylene matrix plates and produced by hot press method. The physical and thermal properties of the samples are tested to evaluate their usability as a sustainable insulation panel. © 2022 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.
