Öğe Special Control Charts Using Intelligent Techniques: EWMA Control Charts(Springer-Verlag Berlin, 2016) Aslan, Bulut; Ekinci, Yeliz; Toy, Ayhan OzgurIn this chapter we consider the economical design of EWMA zone control charts for set of machines operating under JPS (Jidoka Production System). We provide an extensive literature review of intelligent systems in quality control deductively to fit our purposes. It starts with an overview of quality control charts; then, reviews charts designed for special purposes such as EWMA, CUSUM and zone control charts. Finally, as particularly related to this study, reviews of economical design and intelligent applications of EWMA are provided. We discuss and review Jidoka Production System and motivation of operating such a system. We suggest an intelligent control and repair system such that in a production system, machines are individually controlled and repaired when an out-of-control signal is triggered in the zone with the tight control limits, however a system-wide shut down and repair is conducted when the out-of-control signal is from beyond the inner (tight) control limits which is considered as an opportunity for repair and calibration of all machines. We illustrate and investigate the behaviour of control parameters, namely sample size, sampling interval and control limits, via a numerical study of a three-machine system through simulation. We also provide insights for implementation of several metaheuristics for the system setting discussed in this chapter.Öğe The applicability and impact of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems: Results from a mixed method study on Make-To-Order (MTO) companies(Elsevier, 2015-06) Aslan, Bulut; Stevenson, Mark; Hendry, Linda C.The effect of a Make-To-Order (MTO) production strategy on the applicability and impact of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is investigated through a mixed method approach comprised of an exploratory and explanatory survey followed by three case studies. Data on Make-To-Stock (MIS) companies is also collected as a basis for comparison. The exploratory data demonstrates, for example, that MTO adopters of ERP found the system selection process more difficult than MTS adopters. Meanwhile, a key reason why some MTO companies have riot adopted ERP is that it is perceived as unsuitable. The explanatory data is used to test a series of hypotheses on the fit between decision support requirements, ERP functionality, and company performance. In general, a poor fit between the decision support requirements of MTO companies and ERP functionality is identified, although certain modules can lead to performance improvements - most notably for Customer Enquiry Management (CEM). MIS companies make more use of planning tools within ERP systems, and it is concluded that production strategy is an important contextual factor affecting both applicability and impact. Follow-up cases with two MTO adopters and one MTO non-adopter develop a deeper understanding of the survey results. For example, in one adoption case, a system was rented to minimise the consequences of making a poor selection decision. Future research could explore how more MTO-specific planning concepts can be embedded within ERP systems to improve alignment. (C) 2015 Published by Elsevier B.V.
