This study explores the spontaneous and creative moments experienced by psychotherapists in their practice, focusing on how these elements contribute to therapeutic processes. Unlike previous research that typically examines creativity and spontaneity separately, this qualitative study combines these concepts to provide a comprehensive understanding from the therapists' perspectives. It was aimed to understand how therapists conceptualize creativity and spontaneity, identify the specific moments during therapy sessions when they experience these qualities, and uncover the underlying factors that contribute to these experiences. 11 psychotherapists, aged 25 to 32 with 5 months to 7 years of professional experience in Turkey, participated in the study by keeping detailed online diaries and engaging in semi-structured interviews. Through thematic analysis of the collected data from 11 interviews and 41 diaries, five main themes were established: a) where creativity and spontaneity diverge, b) the allies and opponents of creativity and spontaneity, c) effects of creative and spontaneous moments, d) in the session room, and e) keeping a journal. The findings highlight the integral role of creativity and spontaneity in enhancing therapeutic relationships and outcomes, offering valuable insights for both clinical practice and future research directions.
