Özet
The concept of gender can be briefly explained by the roles and obligations given to women and men by the society. The fact that the roles and obligations imposed on men and women are met in various ways in every field of life and in every civilization has resulted in the formation of some issues effecting primarily women, such as the inability to identify women's place in society. From the past to the present, it is clear that the transformations of societies, male-dominated structures, and economic interests objectify women with the image of attractive women being a sexual commodity in particular. The main purpose of this research is to examine how the image of a woman is positioned in the context of gender in technology magazine cover designs. The influence of social dynamics, women's movements, and technological developments on the usage of women's images in cover designs were investigated using cover designs from exemplary technology magazines. In this chapter, which intends to investigate the literature and associated images within the framework of the scanning model, the process from the mid-1990s to the present, when the picture of a woman was first utilized in technology publications, is explored. In this context, the cover designs of national and foreign technology magazines, such as Stuff, LOG, T3 were examined. From 1996 to 2014, the images of women featured in the cover design of Stuff magazine were examined as a factor in enhancing the magazine's sales numbers. Although T3 magazine uses a similar method in its cover design, it is clear that it avoids sexual connotation owing to the social structures of the nations where it is published. It can be concluded that in today's postmodern culture, the profitable and intriguing element of the attitude towards the usage of women's images in the cover designs of the analyzed technology publications is gradually fading. © Peter Lang GmbH Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 2022.
