dc.description.abstractBu tezde, Side Antik Kenti'nde kolektif belleğin dönüşümü hem kentsel doku hem de mimari yapılar ölçeğinde incelenmektedir. Antik ve çağdaş katmanların iç içe geçtiği Side, bellek, mekân ve kent kimliği arasındaki çok yönlü ilişkiyi anlamak açısından özgün bir örnek sunar. Maurice Halbwachs'ın kolektif bellek kuramı, Christine Boyer'in kenti kültürel bir metin olarak ele alan yaklaşımı ve Aldo Rossi'nin kentin süreklilik taşıyan biçimlerine dair görüşleri doğrultusunda, Side'nin mekânsal örgüsü ile tiyatro, hamam kompleksi ve Apollon Tapınağı gibi yapılar bellek, temsil ve kimlik kavramları bağlamlarında değerlendirilir. Arşiv araştırmaları, saha gözlemleri ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler, katman haritalamaları ve görsel anlatı sekansları aracılığıyla temsil edilir. Bu temsil biçimleri, yerel nüfusun antik kenti turizm, modernleşme, ticarileşme ve koruma süreçleri içinde nasıl yeniden yorumladığını gösterir. Analizler, kentin zamanla hem fiziksel hem de anlam düzeyinde dönüşen katmanlarını görünür kılarken, kolektif belleğin mekân aracılığıyla yeniden inşa edilişine odaklanır. Sonuç olarak, çalışma Side'nin çok katmanlı kentsel kimliğini ortaya koymakta ve kolektif bellek üzerine mekânsal kuramların yerelleştirilmiş bir yeniden yorumuna olanak tanıyarak çağdaş kentsel bellek tartışmalarına katkıda bulunmaktadır.
dc.description.abstractThis thesis examines the transformation of collective memory in Side Ancient City, both at the scale of its urban fabric and architectural structures. As a settlement where ancient and contemporary layers intertwine, Side provides a unique case for understanding the multifaceted relationship between memory, space, and urban identity. Drawing upon Maurice Halbwachs's theory of collective memory, Christine Boyer's approach to the city as a cultural text, and Aldo Rossi's ideas on the enduring forms of the city, the study evaluates the concepts of memory, representation, and identity through the spatial organization of Side and its key structures such as the theatre, bath complex, and Temple of Apollo. Data gathered from archival research, field observations, and semi-structured interviews are represented through layer mapping and visual narrative sequences. These representational methods reveal how the local community reinterprets the ancient city amid processes of tourism, modernization, commercialization, and preservation. The analyses make visible the city's layers as they transform physically and symbolically over time, focusing on the reconstruction of collective memory through spatial experience. Ultimately, the study exposes Side's multilayered urban identity and enables a localized reinterpretation of spatial theories on collective memory, contributing to contemporary debates on urban memory.
