Çalışma, sistemin içine yerleşmiş teknolojileri ve söylemsel oluşumları bir bütün olarak kavramayı amaçlamaktadır. Tez, dönemin Osmanlı eğitim kurumlarının altını çizdiği önemli olguları ve Tanzimat dönemi eğitim sisteminin, Foucaultcu bir mercekten bakıldığında modern bir olgu olarak kabul edilip edilemeyeceğini soruşturmaktadır. Çalışmada, yöntemsel olarak Foucaultcu soykütük (genealogy) ve metinlerin söylem analizi kullanılmıştır. Bu yöntem, ilgi gösterilmemiş dinamikleri açığa çıkarmayı ve marjinal kalmış ya da ihmal edilmiş bazı bilgileri vurgulamayı dener. Bu doğrultuda, Osmanlı eğitim sisteminin bütüncül bir analizi, tarih yazımında daha önce ihmal edilmiş faillerin sürece dahil edilmesine olanak tanır. En önemlisi bu çalışma, Tanzimat Dönemi'nde eğitimin, zamanın siyasal rasyonelliklerinden ve zihniyetlerinden ayrı düşünülemeyeceğini gösterir. Bu bağlamda tez, Tanzimat reformları dönemindeki Osmanlı eğitim sisteminin, Foucaultcu teori ışığında modernite vasıfları sergilediğini iddia etmektedir.This thesis, using a Foucauldian methodology, focuses on the Ottoman education system during the course of the Tanzimat period. He aims to grasp, as a whole, technologies and discursive formations entrenched in it. It investigates the important phenomena underlined by the Ottoman educational institutions of the time, and whether we can consider the Tanzimat-era education system as a modern phenomenon through a Foucauldian lens. The study employs – methodologically – a Foucauldian genealogy and discourse analysis of texts. This method attempts to uncover the dynamics which have not been given attention and highlight some marginal or neglected knowledge. To this end, a holistic analysis of the Ottoman education system allows the incorporation of previously neglected agents in the historiography. Most importantly, this shows that education could not be considered apart from the political rationalities and mentalities of the time, in the Tanzimat Era.
