Tiyatroya yönelik kültür politikaları ve ekonominin tiyatroların performansları üzerindeki etkisi, sahne işleten veya sahne sahibi olan bağımsız tiyatro topluluklarında gerçekleştirilen vaka çalışmasıyla, pandemi öncesi ve sonrası dönem de dikkate alınarak tiyatro ve tiyatro seyircisi bağlamında incelenmiştir. Pandemi döneminde sahnelerin kapatılmasının ve kültür ve sanat anlamında dijitalleşmenin tiyatro topluluklarının oyun yazma ve seçme sürecine, mekân ve seyirci anlayışına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Karantinanın tiyatro performansları ve tiyatroların seyircileriyle iletişimleri üzerindeki etkileri ile ekonomik sonuçları, İstanbul'da kendi sahnelerini işleten dört bağımsız tiyatronun temsilcileriyle yapılan bire bir görüşmeler üzerinden araştırılmıştır: Baba Sahne, İkincikat Kadıköy, Kumbaracı50 ve Moda Sahnesi. Tezde, görüşme gerçekleştirilen tiyatroların dijitalleşmeye yaklaşımlarına yer verilmiş ve bu konudaki adımları incelenmiştir. Tiyatronun dijital ortamlara taşınmasının tiyatrolar ve seyirci üzerindeki olumlu ve olumsuz etkilerine, dijitalleşmenin güçlü ve zayıf yönleri, tiyatro sektörü için yaratabileceği fırsatlar ve ortaya çıkarabileceği tehditler incelenerek değinilmiştir. Tezde, tiyatroların deneyimlerinden elde edilen bilgilere ve kültür sanat alanındaki genel duruma bakılarak, tiyatrolara yönelik, ekonomik desteği de içeren sürdürülebilir bir kültür politikası oluşturmanın önemi gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca görüşmelerden elde edilen bulguların ve dijitalleşme sürecinin bağımsız tiyatro topluluklarına etkilerinin incelenmesiyle, tiyatro oyunları ve performansların dijitalleşmesinin henüz istenilen aşamaya gelememişse de ilerleyen zamanda daha da önem kazanacağı sonucuna varılmıştır. Cultural policies related to theatre and the impact of economic factors on theatre performances are examined in the context of theatre and its audiences, considering the pre-pandemic and post-pandemic periods, with case studies conducted on independent theatre companies that operate or own stages. The effects of closures during the pandemic and the impact of digitalization on culture and art were investigated concerning theatre companies' playwriting and selection processes, as well as their understanding of space and audience. The impacts of the quarantine on theatre performances and on theatres' communication with their audiences, along with its economic consequences, were investigated through one-on-one interviews with representatives from four independent theatres that operate their own stages in Istanbul: Baba Sahne, İkincikat Kadıköy, Kumbaracı50, and Moda Sahnesi. The thesis explored the approaches of the interviewed theatres toward digitalization and examined the steps they have taken in this regard. It discussed the positive and negative effects of transferring theatre to digital platforms by analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of digitalization, the opportunities it can create for the theatre sector, and the potential threats it may pose. In this thesis, based on the information obtained from the experiences of theatres and the general situation in the field of culture and arts, the importance of creating a sustainable cultural policy for theatres, including economic support, was identified. Furthermore, by examining the findings from the interviews and the effects of the digitalization process on independent theatre companies, it was concluded that the digitalization of theatre plays and performances has not yet reached the desired stage but is expected to become more important in the future.
