Öğe Emptiness of Freedom: An Analysis of Jacques Rancière’s Understanding of Politics through Tocqueville(2021) Göksel, Gülay UğurIn this article, first, I introduce my account of Ranciere’s political thought. I argue that Ranciere’s description of politics through disagreement is a novel project due to its revelation of the paradox of politics as rational. Second, there is a general assumption about Rancière’s dismissal of any kind of politics within the police order. I oppose this criticism because Rancière does not define police and egalitarian orders as static and individual identity and subjectification as singular. Third, I show that there is a crucial problem in Rancière’s theory in terms of his understanding of the relationship between equality and freedom. I argue that the connection between equality and freedom may not be that strong as Rancière wants us to think and that the democratic ideal of equality may have adverse effects on politics by introducing Tocqueville’s criticism of democratic equality. Finally, by an analysis of political events presented in Disagreement, I argue that Rancière’s emancipatory politics demands a supposition of certain kind of human nature. Hence, the role of politics as the producer of knowledge and change, and the importance of third parties should be taken account for the manifestation of incommensurable wrong for Rancière’s theory of politics to work.Öğe GÖÇMEN KİMLİKLERİNİN İNŞASI: BİR ÇOKKÜLTÜRLÜLÜK VE TANINMA TEORİSİ ELEŞTİRİSİ(2021) Göksel, Gülay UğurBu makalede ilk olarak çokkültürlü politikalar hakkındaki tartışmaların ve Honneth’in tanınmaya dayalı eleştirel teorisinin kısa bir özeti verilecektir. İkinci olarak Honneth’in teorisine iki açıdan eleştiri getirilecektir. İlk eleştiri, Honneth’in Meadçi sosyopsikolojik öz-oluşum analizinin, ev sahibi ülkelerdeki yeni gelen göçmenlerin saygısızlık ve yanlış tanınma deneyimlerini anlamamız için gerekli teorik yapı açısından eksik olduğudur. İkinci temel eleştiri, Honneth’in tanınma teorisini pratik sosyolojik bir bakış açısıyla uygulanabilir kılmak için siyasi kurumların bireysel kendini gerçekleştirme ve tanınma üzerindeki etkilerini göz ardı ettiğidir. Hegel’in etik düzen fikrini kullanmasına rağmen Honneth’in teorisi bireysel veya grup mücadelelerinin özgürleşme potansiyeli üzerinde siyasi kurumların rolüne vurgu yapmak konusunda yetersiz kalmaktadır. Farklı göçmen deneyimlerine referanslar verilerek bu eleştirilerin temel aldığı esas noktalar gösterilecektir. I set up this investigation with a consideration of the debate between liberals and communitarians. In the history of political thought, many political thinkers have been occupied by the questions about the priority of right over good and of universal over particular. In order to answer these questions, one needs to have a clear conception of freedom since the claims of freedom and equality are universally accepted political values which should reflect our political institutions contextually. To accomplish this task, first, I will introduce a brief account of Kant’s idea of freedom. It is crucial to know Kantian idea of freedom and how this idea reflects to his political philosophy to understand Hegel’s emphasis on ethical order and particularly state institutions. Second, I will give a brief account of Hegel’s idea of freedom by giving references to his book titled Philosophy of Right. Third, I will introduce two major criticisms that Hegel poses to the Kantian idea of freedom.
